Bellagio and World Poker Tour Agree on Multi-Year Extension

The World Poker Tour and Bellagio Resort & Casino were a hit from their very first date back in 2002, and like some relationships that grow through nurturing each other, they have. They announced today that they have reached an agreement on an extension and Bellagio will continue to be the exclusive home of the popular$25,000 buy-in WPT World Championship and the always popular Doyle Brunson Five Diamond World Poker Classic through the end of WPT Season XI.

Poker history at Bellagio

“WPT and Bellagio have been together since day one,” said WPT President Adam Pliska. “In 2002, Gus Hansen won the very first WPT title at the Five Diamond and we’ve been making poker history at Bellagio ever since. We are proud to continue our association with one of the most elite gaming resorts in the world.”

The WPT Player of the Year Race is down to the wire as players gather in Las Vegas for the WPT world Championship and record $100,000 Buy-in WPT Super High Roller Event. The finale to WPT Season IX is just days away and with the first time ever $100,000 buy-in Super High Roller event in the U.S., the anticipation is running off the charts.

History in the making

Every May poker's elite gather at Bellagio for the season-ending WPT World Championship and the following pros - including defending champion David Williams - have announced their intent to play: Dwyte Pilgrim, Daniel Negreanu, Phil Hellmuth, Vanessa Rousso, Erik Seidel, Faraz Jaka, Antonio Esfandiari, Vanessa Rousso, and Ali Eslami. The highest buy-in televised event in U.S. history - the $100,000 WPT Super High Roller debuts on May 18th and 19th, kicking off at 12 P.M. on Wednesday, the 18th in the Fontana Lounge at Bellagio and will continue on Thursday, May 19th in Bellagio's poker room at 12 P.M. The list for the $100K WPT Super High Roller seating at this time is Tony G, Sam Trickett, Justin Smith, Erik Seidel, and Dan Shak along with others that are expected to play.

“Bellagio and WPT have always had a strong alliance in the poker industry,” said Doug Dalton, Director of Poker Operations for Bellagio. “We anticipate a competitive field for the 2011 WPT World Championship and look forward to a successful future.”

WPT Player of the Year race

This is the final leg of the season-long WPT Player of the Year race.  It's very close since only 100 points separate Vivek Rajkumar and Andy Frankenberger for first and second place, respectively. Within striking distance for the POY race are Alessio Isaia, Kia Mohajeri, Alexander Kuzmin, Antonio Esfandiari, Taylor Von Kriegenbergh, Tom Marchese and Greg Brooks. This will prove to be a true battle of champions as these pro players fight it out for the WPT Season IX Player of the Year title.

WPT World Championship action gets underway Saturday, May 14, 2011 at Bellagio in Las Vegas. Follow all the action with WPT Live Updates at
