Buy Face Time with Poker Pros While Relaxing at Home

Are you a poker player looking to improve your game? Do you have a few thousand dollars and a lot of bandwidth to spare? If so, you can buy an hour with a professional poker playing economist – right in your own home.

Meet Brandon Adams, the 32-year-old founder and chief executive officer of Expert Insight, a new website offering one-to-one video chats with experts in various fields. These experts range from Gary Becker, a University of Chicago professor who won the Nobel Prize in Economics in 1992, to economics professors Jeffrey Miron of Harvard University, Laurence Kotlikoff of Boston University and “Freakonomics” co- authors Stephen Dubner and Steven Levitt.

For poker enthusiasts and students of the great game of poker, virtual face time can be purchased on Expert Insight with Poker Pros Patrik Antonius and Tom Dwan . Joining them will be some of Adams’s poker-playing friends, including Phil Gordon, with over $2.8 million in lifetime tournament winnings and Rafe Furst, a 2006 World Series of Poker event winner.

But if you are having problems managing your bankroll, it is Adams, a professional poker player who taught undergraduates in Harvard’s Department of Economics for eight years that you may want to talk to. Cashing in on his expertise and love of poker, Adams began giving one-to-one poker lessons over the video-chat service Skype in March 2010, charging $300-$400 per hour. The success of that endeavor lead him to develop Expert Insight, where his goal was to ‘bring the video coaching model to everything,’ which of course included poker since Adam is a regular fixture in some of the worlds biggest cash poker games

“I was amazed at how easy it was to drum up business,” Adams said in a telephone interview. “I realized that one-to-one teaching was a great opportunity to monetize content. What you’re doing is searching the world for that small slice of people, maybe 15 to 30, who are willing to pay a high price for your content.”

Expert Insight spared no expense when building their website, investing $450,000 in Adams dream which he expects to become profitable in late 2012 or 2013. Insight’s Experts will set their own rates and schedules and give a 30 percent commissions to the company. To advertise their services, Adams has embraced the social media arena by taking bids via Twitter for poker sessions, with Antonius drawing an offer of $3,200 and Dwan receiving a bid of $3,000.

Commenting on the April 15th Black Friday crackdown by the US Department of Justice and how it may affect business, Adams commented, “The indictment of the major poker sites by the Department of Justice will definitely hit our poker coaching business very hard. Long term, I’m 100 percent sure that the appetite for poker in this country is very strong and will reassert itself somehow.”

Black Friday of course has nothing to do with live poker, except maybe to drive those locked-out online poker players back to the bricks and mortar poker rooms. It is from the live venues that Adams may find his future clientele.
