Sean Drake Claims 2011 WSOP Casino Employee Event

The Employee Event is limited to a restricted group of players, much like the WSOP Ladies Event and the WSOP Seniors Event, there are qualifications to be met and as stated by the title, only Casino Employees are allowed to enter.  To many Casino employees, it is a huge highlight in their poker playing career; they get to compete with other individuals that serve the casino industry on a level playing field and make a run for cash and the grand prize of all, a WSOP bracelet. Sean Drake, a part time poker dealer from Folsom, California, did exactly that, claiming the First WSOP bracelet of the year in Event #1.

The Casino Employees Event

This event has been the first one slated on the roster of WSOP events for a number of years now, kicking off as Event #1 to start all of the action and craziness that ensues during the next six weeks of poker, it is No Limit Holdem with a Buy-in of $500.  The 2011 prizepool hit $382,500 with 850 runners hoping to be the last player standing.  Originally it was to be played as a 2 day event but turned into a 3 day event when there were still four competitors playing through 10 levels on Day 2.

Day 3

Day 3 started at 3:00 p.m. with the following players and their chips counts:

Sean Drake
Jason Baker
Claudio Falcaro
Christopher Perez

Heads-up Play

After being chip leader at the beginning of Day 3, Sean Drake had Jason Baker drawing wounded when all of the chips went in on a flop of {7-Spades}{6-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}.  Drake held {J-Spades}{J-Clubs} against Baker's {7-Clubs}{5-Hearts} only to find the board come with a {7-Diamonds} on the turn.  Baker was definitely back in action and Drake was in jeopardy.

Everything changed however when Drake's {A-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts} doubled him up against Baker's {A-Clubs}{10-Clubs}. Not long after that Drake put all of his chips in with {K-Diamonds}{K-Clubs} against Baker's {J-Spades}{6-Spades}. The board rolled out with {K-Spades}{J-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{J-Hearts} but the miracle {J-Diamonds} didn't show up on the river and Drake doubled again.  The next hand found Baker finishing the Employee's Event in 2nd place and Sean Drake claiming his first World Series of Poker Bracelet and a prize of $82,292. Congratulations Sean!
