Andrew Badecker Takes Down WSOP NLH Shootout

The $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em Shootout started with 1,440 players with 160 being paid and first place would take home $369,371 out of a total Prize Pool of $1,944,000.  Andrew Badecker was going to end up with four other unknowns at the final table after some four former WSOP gold bracelet winners went to the cashier's cage: Looking at the formidable lineup of savvy bronzed and bejeweled veterans – which included Erik Cajelais, Dan Kelly, Vitaly Lunkin, and David Pham (all with combined $6.5 million in WSOP winnings) one might have expected a late-night star-stacked battle, and perhaps a repeat champion.

Other former WSOP gold bracelet winners cashed in this event – including those who made it to the final table. They were Amir Lehavot (21st), Eric Baldwin (42nd), Scott Montgomery (46th), Blair Hinkle (56th), Daniel Negreanu (59th), Max Pescatori (64th), Brandon Cantu (82nd), Scott Seiver (97th), Greg Raymer (109th), Jennifer Tilly (131st) and Matt Matros (133rd).

Andrew Badecker had to get through a nine-handed table, a ten-handed table, and a 16 person SNG.  He officially entered the final table of nine with the chip lead and managed to dominate the whole way.  A couple of times he lost the chip lead but quickly got it back each time.

The final hand found Andrew Badecker and Robbie Verspui getting all the chips in when Badecker raised to 90,000 and Verspui reraised to 245,000.  After looking at his opponent's chips, Badecker moved all-in and Verspui insta-called.

Badecker table {K-Hearts}{2-Hearts} to Verspui's {A-Spades}{J-Hearts}.

The flop brought down the {7-Hearts}{5-Spades}{2-Spades} and everyone screaming for Badecker went crazy shouting for his hand to hold.  The {K-Spades} on the turn help Badecker but Verspui had the nut flush draw now. The rail screamed "red!" When the {5-Diamonds} hit the river Badecker was on at home plate. Robbie Verspui finished in 2nd place and took home $228,334.

Badecker's plans for the Prize Money: “All I can think about is that I will be able to play in some more tournaments now. But I will definitely be careful and be smart with the money.”

Andrew Badecker took home his first WSOP Gold Bracelet in the $1,500 No Limit Holdem Shootout event and claimed a first place prize of $369,371 and the title!  Congratulations Andrew!
