PokerStars WCOOP Day 11 Recap

The halfway point of the 2011 PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker hit on Wednesday with 31 of the 62 events on the schedule already finding a champion. On day 11 three more champions were crowned and included poker pros Alexander "Schildy1984" Debus and Vincent "Vingtcent" Van Der Fluit, they both took their first WCOOP bracelets.

When the day ended there were 65 left of the 1,146 that started the event. Some of the notables that were entering Day 2 with healthy stacks included Alexander "Schildy1984" Debus, Christina "lindeyloo22" Lindley, Christian "C.K." Kruel, Will "molswi47" Molson, Adam "Roothlus" Levy, Chris "Genius28" Lee, and Mark "AceSpades11" Radoja.

When it got down to heads-up play, it took only 10 hands between "TheFan83" and Alexander "Schildy1984" Debus to find a winner."TheFan83" showed the jd4d after all his chips went in on a board of 3djh4h1c9s but Debus had turned a set of queens.

The final table took four-and-a-half hours to find a winner; this sent the total time for the tournament into more than 14 hours. Long day, nice payday for the winner!

The chip counts at the start of heads-up play were as follows:

“nkeyno:” 1,500,496
“Horns_Halos:” 1,924,504

The battle lasted for more than an hour and a half and finally “Horns_Halos” won the battle. The final hand found "Horns_Halos" raising on the button. The big blind, "nkeyno" shoved for about 30 big blinds. "Horns_Halos" called and showed {a-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{6-Spades}, and was facing "nkeyno's" {a-Spades}{k-Spades}{6-Hearts}{5-Spades}. The board ran out {j-Clubs}{10-Spades}{9-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}, giving "Horns_Halos" aces and 10s to take home the win, $23,555 first-place prize, and the WCOOP bracelet.

The final table of 10 arrived after two rounds were completed. Play resumed at 11:00 EDT (16:00 BST) on Thursday and the remaining players started the day with 7,500 in chips. Daniel "Kidpoker" Negreanu won his first table on Wednesday and was the only Team PokerStars Pro member to make it that far. During the second round he was eliminated when his {j-Spades}{j-Diamonds} ran into "delpede112" and his pockets {q-Clubs}{q-Hearts} and "delegator" who held the {k-Hearts}{k-Spades}. The best hand held up and Negreanu was gone in 95th place for $1,241.

Down to heads-up play Van Der Fluit held a commanding lead with 2,692,375 to “ElmanOne's” 467,625. Two games later at 40,000-80,000 Omaha Hi/Lo, Van Der Fluit sealed the deal. The capped betting preflop brought the {10-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{5-Clubs} and “ElmanOne” bet. Van Der Fluit called and the turn brought the {5-Hearts}. All of “ElmanOne's” chips went into the middle with {k-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{3-Hearts}{2-Hearts} against Van Der Fluit's {a-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}. Neither had improved their hand, though both held flush and low draws. The {q-Spades} hit the river, leaving Van Der Fluit's {a-Diamonds}{k-Hearts} in play as the winning cards. Van Der Fluit earned $35,076 and a WCOOP bracelet.
