Group Laurent Tapie, which recently announced its plans of acquiring Full Tilt Poker and saving the company from its huge debts, is taking a new step into the poker business. The group has launched a new project called The International Stadiums Poker Tour (ISPT) – a live poker event boasting to become the biggest live poker tournament in history. 30,000 online-qualified players and a guaranteed prize pool of $30 million with 1/3 of it going into the hands of one winner. The tour promises to host one event every year with the first tournament taking place about a year from now in one of the world's biggest arenas – Wembley Stadium in London, England.
A five-day event should take place sometime between August 15 and October 9, 2012, with preference to the first weeks of September. The exact time of the tournament should be announced next month when the Wembley Stadium publishes the English national football team calendar. First qualification tournaments to the big event are set to take off in January, 2012. Online qualifiers will run on ISPT's exclusive partners' online poker sites and casinos although no specific venues have been announced yet.
The International Stadiums Poker Tour is planning to host the biggest live tournament in poker history – on the first day of the event, the Wembley Stadium should welcome from 20,000 to 30,000 players who will begin playing online simultaneously from their seats in the stadium using electronic pads. Then, on Day 2, the 3,000 best players will advance to the next level and get to play at the real poker tables set on Wembley Stadium's pitch. All those who make it to the real tables will share the $30 million guaranteed prize pool.
On Day 3 the number of players is expected to be reduced to 1,000 with only 250 of them advancing into the next level. Day 4 will see the remaining players drop out until only the final table remains. The final phase of the tournament – Day 5 will feature 10 top players at the final table playing for $17.5 million of the prize money with one winner taking home the $10 million cash prize – one of the biggest first-place cash prizes in the entire poker industry.
A contract between Group Laurent Tapie and Wembley Stadium had already been signed on September 16th so there's a great chance that the largest field of poker players to ever enter a single event will actually gather next September at Wembley Stadium in London. “The ISPT is the largest poker event of all times and in the future will be held annually,” said Laurent Tapie. “The tournament series will always be held in famous stadiums in various countries.”
