WSOPE Announces 2012 Schedule

This year the World Series of Poker Europe will return to the Casino Barrière de Cannes Croisette and the Hôtel Majestic Barrière in Cannes, France, for the second time to host a two-week event and give away seven bracelets. The WSOP released the 2012 schedule on Thursday, March 8th, with the tournament set to take place September 21st through October 4th.

WSOP vice president Ty Stewart explained that they decided to start the event a little early this year so that the players would be able to fully enjoy their experience in Southern France including not only top shelf poker but nice weather as well.

“We can’t wait to return to the Cote D’Azur in 2012,” Stewart said. “We have moved up the schedule a couple of weeks to take better advantage of the great weather and all Cannes has to offer. Ask anyone who attended last year. This tournament is now a certified major championship and the experience is second to none. The media is already speculating on 1,000 players for the Main Event and we will be ready for them.”

Apart from the seven bracelet events, the 2012 WSOPE tournament, presented by the French online poker site will also run 48 side events all of which will be played in Texas Hold'em and Omaha. Because of the French law which only allows the two most popular poker variations, this year's schedule will be almost identical to the last year's with some minor buy-in changes.

“We are pleased to welcome back this event to the Cannes Barrière resort,” the Barrière Croisette Casino CEO, Alain Fabre said. “The first edition of the WSOPE in Cannes was a great success, an award winning event that we took great pride in. We look forward to hosting the players again and will strive to make this 'festival of poker' even more fabulous.”

Players' results at the WSOPE tables will also have an effect of their overall WSOP Player of the Year rankings. Last year's events proved just how important European points can be when the WSOPE Main Event runner-up Chris Moorman moved down in the race of the POY title to Ben Lamb only after losing the heads-up battle to Elio Fox.
