It has been a long and painful year for online poker players in the United States since Black Friday hit on April 15th, 2011. The far reaching impact of the indictments and closure of the top three online poker sites is still unfolding as the U.S. government continues its witch hunt for supposed Ponzi schemes and the prosecution of companies that offer/offered online poker and banking transactions to U.S. citizens.
In truth, the entire complex mess is the fault of the U.S. government. Online poker was up and running for nine years before the UIGEA was signed into law. If the government had initiated the proper study of online poker and delegated a team to provide safe, licensed and regulated game play - from the beginning - for its citizens, the U.S. would be stacking the benefits in the U.S. treasury instead of waging war on ghosts that supposedly undermine the values of the online poker players living in America.
These people are involved in the business of poker; this is their reaction to the news of Black Friday:
How did President Barack Obama react when he heard the news? How did he feel when literally thousands of online poker players lost their jobs and their bankrolls? Did he feel concern when media personnel were terminated due to their employers’ loss of income or the ramifications poker production companies faced when their shows were cancelled? Did Obama take a moment and bow his head or even find an emotion for all of the people that he has ignored and let down since that day a year ago?
Apparently Obama has no voice when it comes to online poker.
This writer is still highly agitated and disgusted that freedom is a disguise; a disguise used by those that want to control. Freedom is choice, your choice may not be the one I would pick yet I would not force you to download an online poker site and register to play for FREE for a trip package to the World Series of Poker. Winning a package to a World Series of Poker event is one of my biggest dreams, it harms no one, it affects only me, and I resent the fact that I do not have the freedom to make my choice.
President Obama and the U.S. government have robbed me of much more than a World Series of Poker trip package, they have removed my right to choose.
