Take 639 poker players and roll them into Event #5 $1,500 Pot Limit Hold'em and you end up with a prize pool of $862,650 with 72 of them taking home a piece of it. Of course the pig's share is reserved for the winner - coming in at $189,818. This event started on May 30th and ran through June 1st, 2012 leaving a trail of hopefuls along the way to the final table that led to the champion Nick Jivkov.
Some of the more notable players that finished in the top 20 were Tommy Vedes (4th), Daniel Negreanu (5th), Thom Werthman (10th), Steve Brecher (12th), Nam Le (16th), and John Juanda (18th).
Nick Jivkov had cashed 10 times in various World Series of Poker Circuit events in the last few years and claimed a gold ring in 2010 at the IP in Biloxi. The ring is a tremendous milestone for a serious player but to top it off with a gold bracelet...that's what dreams are made of.
Bryan Pellegrino and Nick Jivkov went to war when Jivkov raised the pot with 10h10c and Pellegrino went all-in holding Jh9s. The board ran out qhks8s7c2c and the hope of a miracle Jack for a bigger pair or a 10 for a straight didn't materialize. Pellegrino took home $117,199 for his second place finish.
Nick Jivkov landed in Vegas and immediately hopped into a $235 Deep Stack Tournament at the Rio - and won it - claiming almost $14,000 for first place. The very next day he entered the $1,500 Pot Limit Hold'em event. BIG SCORE!!! Congratulations go out to Nick for his new bling and stacking first place prize money of $189,818.
