Another page in World Series of Poker history was written when 2,302 players all took their seats in Event #19 No Limit Holdem. With the moderate buy-in of $1,500 the seats filled up and so did the prize pool as it reached more than $3,000,000; more than half a million would be waiting for the champion - along with a gold bracelet which is so valuable that it does not carry a price tag. Cliff Goldkind managed to battle through everyone that tried to stand in his path as he forged onwards to the finish line.
The final hand came down to Kennii Nguyen holding and Cliff Goldkind with . Goldkind had a massive chip lead and when an all-in and a call came about, the cards were face up on the table. Nguyen who had maintained an upbeat, high energy persona started chanting, "Picture! Picture! Monkey!" at the dealer. Apparently the dealer didn't like being called a monkey and the board ran out and Kennii Nguyen was off to wear his crazy jester hat to the cashier's cage and pick up $347,036 for his second place finish.
Throughout the tournament Goldkind did not bother to find out what the payouts were. When he won the tournament the conversation went like this:
"You wanna know payouts now, Cliff?" one of his friends asked.
"Sure," Goldkind answered.
"Five-fifty-nine," came the reply.
Goldkind's eyes rolled back in his head. "Oh," he said with an impenetrable grin.
"You're halfway to One Drop!" another said.
Cliff Goldkind took home $559,514 in first place prize money and a very coveted gold bracelet. Congratulations Cliff!
