The Inside Shuffle – Tony G Making Nice to Poker Brat; Online Poker Raises in NV and Folds in CA; and More

Phil Hellmuth & Tony G
Share this

We know all eyes at the World Series of Poker have been on Phil Ivey and his bid for bracelet number nine, and maybe Player of the Year honors. But other things have been happening in the poker world too, such as this tidbit filed in the “Believe it or Not” section; after years of ragging on Phil Hellmuth, Tony G finally had something nice to say. If you love animals as much as Jennifer Harman, then plan to play in the charity event she is hosting this fall. And if you are patiently waiting for online poker to be legal, things are moving in Nevada, but in California, Senator Rod Wright folded.

Is TonyG Really Giving Phil Hellmuth Kudos?

We weren’t sure hell would freeze over before Tony G actually said something nice about Phil Hellmuth, but we suspected it might. But alas, Tony G proved that even he knows how to give credit when it is due when he blogged:

“In all seriousness I would like to congratulate Hellmuth, I have always said the game needs him and the game certainly needs him winning a 12th bracelet. For every bracelet that Phil wins he matures a year – moving up from the mental age of an 11-year-old to a 12-year-old is a truly significant step…”

Ok, so even the compliment has a dig in there - but we don’t expect miracles. Read Tony G’s blog to find out who can’t be called the “Frankendonker” anymore, and see why Tony may not make it to the Big One for One Drop - because of the Olympics? Catch up on Tony's Blog here.

Reno Spotlight: Jennifer Harman to Host Charity Event in November

It may be a few months away, but now is the time to start planning a fall trip if you want to play with Jennifer Harman and other poker pros and do a good deed for animals.

If you are in northern Nevada on November 10th, head over to the Atlantis Casino Resort & Spa in Reno. The event will raise funds for local charities, with 100% of the net player entry proceeds being donated to the charities involved. The Jennifer Harman Charity Poker Tournament will feature a unique 10-player team format with a buy-in of $250 per individual ($2,500 per team). It is no surprise that animal lover Harman and her teams will be playing for the Nevada SPCA which run no-kill shelters throughout the state. For more information on the event, visit

Nevada Online Poker News

While getting ready for Nevada to legalize online poker, Bally Technologies Inc. and Aristocrat Technologies Inc. have announced a business-to-business partnership with Shuffle Master to create a joint iGaming platform. This isn’t the first time the slot machine giants have teamed up.

In the hope that poker will be legalized in the U.S., they got together earlier this year to offer a third-party platform for online poker providers. Read the full story in the Press Release.

Online Poker Folding in California?

While Nevada is making strides in getting intrastate online poker up and running, California efforts have hit the muck. The state is broke, it needs money and new revenue seems like a god-send to several lawmakers. But many tribes and casinos in the Golden State are opposed to online poker, they are afraid someone will steal their golden poker goose and all of her golden eggs.

Why did Senator Rod Wright, the Democrat from Inglewood, pull his online poker legislation from the agenda before it could come up for a vote? Visit the Sacramento Bee for more information.
