On June 19th, 587 players entered Event #36 at the World Series of Poker, the $3,000 No Limit Hold’em Shootout, and only 60 of them would take home a piece of the 1,602,510 prize pool.
After three days of wild poker action, the final table was set with 10 players. Sardor Gaziev was quickly dispatched to the rail in 10th place, and 20 minutes later, Joe Tehan followed - leaving eight players.
The biggest surprise of the day was the elimination of WSOP gold bracelet owner Antonio “The Magician” Esfandiari, who had 80% of the chips when the table was down to three handed. After only three losing hands, Antonio fell in third place, another victim of UK poker pro Craig McCorkell. From then on it was a heads-up match between McCorkell and Jeremiah Fitzpatrick.
After Craig crippled Fitzpatrick with pocket eights, the final hand took place when short stacked Fitzpatrick was all in with the against Craig’s . When the board played out with the , Craig tasted WSOP gold bracelet victory for the first time. Congrats Craig! Not only are you taking gold home to the UK, you also pocketed $368,593 in cash!
