It's all happening in the European Poker Tour (EPT) Season 9, where sponsor of the 'High Roller of the Year' award which is all new this season, PokerStars, is raising the stakes for high rollers. The player to accumulate the most points in Season 9 events that have a 10K (€ / $ / £) buy-in or higher will take home the award.

“High Stakes poker action is as exciting as any sport in the world and features the best players competing against each other and those with enough confidence and cash to take on poker’s elite players,” said Edgar Stuchly, President of EPT. “These high stakes tournaments provide high-drama, deep strategy and potentially life-changing rewards.”

EPT history will be written in Season 9 as it features the most high roller events ever and 16 events that include three Super High Rollers (Barcelona, PCA and Monaco), two 25K events (PCA and Monaco), and 10K Reload tournaments at every EPT tour stop this year. Season 9 also has the brand new 10K Championship Events.

Philipp Gruissem, German high stakes poker pro, will be the player to beat when Spain’s biggest ever buy-in poker event - the European Poker Tour (EPT) Barcelona €50,000 Super High Roller tournament - kicks off later this month. The Super High Roller leads the EPT festival events on August 17.

Gruissem is credited for being the inspiration for the ‘High Roller of the Year’ award because of his performance in EPT8. Last season found Gruissem taking home €1.4 million in high roller tournaments, making five final tables, and winning the £20,000 tournament in EPT London and the €10,000 event in EPT Barcelona.
