Real money games offered by 888poker will run through the Facebook platform and 888's Bingo Island will be the first product that will offer real money, with casino, slots, and poker following later in the year.
“888 has long recognized the potential for social gaming," said 888 COO Itai Frieberger. "Our Facebook freemium (play for fun) offerings have found a significant audience, and we are very excited by the opportunity that real-money gaming on Facebook provides. We are working closely with Facebook on this launch, ensuring we introduce the best of both worlds of real-money and social gaming.”
Head of Games Partnerships for Europe Facebook Julien Codorniou said, “Facebook is a great platform for playing games with your friends and we are really pleased to be working with 888, who have a strong reputation on both the quality and safety of their games."
Facebook's joining forces with 888 is the second of such alliances. A bingo product called Bingo Friendzy was the initial app that allowed gambling with real money instead of Facebook Credits. Later on Gamesys (which powered the software) added a real money slots product to the real money platform at Facebook.
Facebook's biggest gaming partner for numerous years is Zynga and the plan is to enter the U.K. real money online gambling market early next year; the partnership of the two companies was restructed so Zynga's real money offering through bwin.party would be on the new Facebook platform when it launches.
