Real-money online poker is going to debut in Nevada today at 9 a.m. PST on Tuesday, April 30th, 2013, when Nevada-based Ultimate Poker puts cards in the air at UltimatePoker.com.
“We are proud to be the first company to deliver legal and secure real-money online gaming to poker players,” said Ultimate Poker Chairman Tom Breitling. “We have worked closely with state gaming regulators to demonstrate our unique and compelling poker platform that, above all, players know they can trust. Ultimate Poker is dedicated to being the players’ choice for online poker.”
Station Casinos LLC, majority owner of the subsidiary Ultimate Poker, has an exclusive online gaming partnership with the Ultimate Fighting championship (UFC) and recently signed Antonio Esfandiari, poker's all-time tournament money leader, as brand ambassador.
“This day has been a long time coming. Online poker in the United States is finally here and totally legit,” Esfandiari sad. “I signed on to be the ambassador for Ultimate Poker because I knew the people behind this company would do it right. I signed on because UltimatePoker.com is where I would come to play. Now we all can."
Ultimate Poker is open to anyone age 21 and over that is in the state of Nevada. Whether you’re a resident or just visiting the Silver State, you can create an account and deposit online. You can also make a deposit and cash out at any of Station Casinos’ 16 locations across the Las Vegas valley. And any player can sign up and deposit at UltimatePoker.com in advance of their visit to Nevada; World Series or Poker players that come in from all parts of the world will be able to play at UltimatePoker.*
Ultimate Gaming was founded by four prominent gaming and technology entrepreneurs and is headquartered in Las Vegas. In 2011 Ultimate Gaming acquired CyberArts to create and maintain its own proprietary casino software which offers a safe and trusted environment.
“We feel our technology is a major advantage. Ultimate Poker’s proprietary software is completely owned and operated by parent company Ultimate Gaming, allowing for continuous investment and product development,” said Ultimate Poker Chief Executive Officer Tobin Prior. “The technology was acquired in 2011 and initially developed by a U.S.-based company with a completely clean regulatory profile.”

*From this writer's perspective:
I had hoped to be dealt into the first hand of legal real-money, online poker a few moments ago. I was given an error message that my mobile 'Verizon phone number' could not be verified as being located in Nevada. I do not have a Verizon phone number, my service is furnished through StraightTalk which is a leg off of ATT. My phone number area code is 702, my address is in Nevada, I live in the sticks but I am still in Nevada. I also had to list my social security number when registering for an account, this does not leave me jumping for joy...I cannot play, but my information is in their hands?
If I were to drive 70 miles into Las Vegas, would my mobile number show me as being in NV? I doubt it.
Is this how NV Gaming expects to regulate underage and problem gamblers? It could regulate the online poker sites right out of business if the masses that aren't in Las Vegas want to play and aren't allowed to.
I did send an email to customer support at UltimatePoker concerning my mobile phone verification. I will update the response here when I receive one.
UPDATED 9 a.m. PST - 5/1/13
I received this responsed from Ultimate Poker support:

Try texting "YES" to UPOKER (which is 876537). Let us know if this fails.
Thank you for contacting Ultimate Poker.

Unfortunately I had already typed "YES" in response to a text received when I registered and my thought is that Angel's response was ridiculous since one must give a cell phone number, and receive a text and respond, to even continue with registering on the site. Then immediately another email came in from Angel that my 'request has been solved' and the incident was closed. I sent another email to customer support but have not received a response. Customer support in this matter is nonexistent and the team needs to have a better organized answer than the one above.
I received word from a Las Vegas player via Facebook that they could not play either, even though they are in Las Vegas, due to being a Verizon customer. A possible solution for many is to buy a cheap cell phone and purchase a minutes plan through the carriers listed above. I'm not sure I will exercise that option at this time.
I received a second email from Angel:

We understand that some players with LTE-enabled phones are also receiving an error that we are unable to locate them in Nevada. Disabling LTE on your phone and logging in again should alleviate this problem.

Unfortunately this 'fix' did not work for me either but I did try it, even though I have an older iPhone. Perhaps issues will resolve and I'll be happily 'jamming it to the moon' in an online poker game in Nevada.
