Michael Gathy outlasted a field of 1,629 to collect his second WSOP bracelet and take home $278,613 at the same time. The Belgian pro was wearing the same shirt he wore when he won his first WSOP bracelet in 2012.

When Day 2 started there were 35 players but the fast-paced structure narrowed it down to the nine-handed final table within only five hours. Early on Day 2 some of the notables that were eliminated were Jamie Rosen, Ognjen Sekularac, Aaron Massey, Simon Charette, Sam Greenwood, and Jennifer Tilly — she four-bet shoved with {A-Spades}{J-Spades} but didn't improve against Victor Figueroa's {A-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}.

1Michael Gathy$ 278,613
2Benjamin Reason$172,252
3Yueqi Zhu$113,358
4Sergey Rybachenko$81,720
5Daniel Bishop$59,816
6Jason Duval$44,422
7Jake Cody$33,456
8Noah Vaillancourt$25,539
9Russell Crane$19,748

When it got down to heads-up, Gathy had an almost 4-to-1 chip lead over Reason and it all ended on the 166th hand of the final table. Reason opened to 80,000 and Gathy raised it to 180,000. Reason shoved all-in for 905,000. Gathy called after taking a minute to decide.

Gathy: {A-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}
Reason: {K-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}

The flop hit Gathy — {9-Clubs}{8-Spades}{3-Diamonds} — and it was over when the {9-Spades} fell on the turn. Gathy caught a full house when the {A-Spades} completed the board and won his second WSOP bracelet.
