New Security Measure for Player Accounts at PokerStars

PokerStars Security Measures

A new security feature designed to protect players' accounts has been announced at PokerStars. The feature — SMS Validation — is a tool that will reduce the vulnerability of player accounts to unauthorized hackers. The free service will be automatically applied in the latest PokerStars software update and available first to specific countries before it's launched globally.

Once a player has activated the SMS Validation option in the PokerStars client, when a potential irregularity with the operation of their account is detected by PokerStars' security system, an SMS text message is sent. Players will not be able to conduct real money transactions (deposit, cash out, and transfer, including registration in tournament and cash games) in their account if irregularities are detected, until they enter the code number provided in the SMS text message.

Using the latest security feature entails registering a mobile phone number and then activating "SMS Security Options" in the PokerStars software. Certain accounts have the ability to reset their account password now by SMS which lets players easily gain access to their PokerStars account.

Michael Josem, Head of Public Relations at PokerStars, said: “PokerStars is once again delivering on the importance of security for our customers. We were the first online poker operator to provide RSA Security Tokens and now the first online poker operator to offer this SMS security mechanism. The service is free to all players and adds an additional security mechanism to help PokerStars player accounts remain safe and secure against online threats.”

The RSA Security Token displays a six-digit code that changes every minute and is in addition to a player's password. When a TSA Security Token is activated to a player's account, they are required to enter the RSA Security Passcode at every logon.

There are more than 50 million registered users at PokerStars, the additional security measures help guarantee that player accounts remain safe and secure.
