The Inside Shuffle - Antigua's Plans; PokerStars Mobile Poker App; Boycott the Venetian

Venetian Poker Room
Share this

It’s time to kick the dust balls off of the Inside Shuffle and start spinning news-filled tidbits into virtual space again.

If you read us here at PokerWorks, you know we are not a big fan of Sheldon Adelson. We aren't the only ones that feel way, get ready to boycott the Venetian Poker Room in Las Vegas, starting tonight, for five days.

PokerStars has a Mobile Poker App Giveaway running right now that can put cash in your bankroll and take your game to all points on the globe.

Antiqua is back in action forming an implementation committee to collect on the WTO Online Gambling Judgment against the United States.

Settle in and keep up, it's short and sweet!

Sheldon Adelson - Super online poker GRINCH

Sheldon Adelson started an anti-poker campaign with the intention of 'protecting US citizens' from online gambling...or so he would have us believe. Last month Adelson spoke out on against online gambling.

Perhaps Adelson's stance against online gambling wouldn't gall so much if he wasn't the chairman and CEO of Las Vegas Sands Corp., the biggest gaming company in the world.

WSOP media director and noted poker writeNolan Dalla got involved with a blog post:

From Dalla's post:

What do I expect the boycott to accomplish? Perhaps The Venetian’s numbers and revenues will drop a little. That’s not the point. This isn’t a fight about profits. It’s about making a statement. Let’s do whatever we can to create an empty poker room for five straight days. Let’s show Adelson that the poker community will not sit passively and remain silent while he trashes our game and denies us our rights.

We must do something.

We must take a stand. We must vote with our feet and our money. This is truly a “we will no longer sit in the back of the bus” moment for poker.

Let's do this poker players, repost it, tweet it, get the word out that Adelson and all of his money can take his attitude about online poker and gambling and send it down the toilet, we aren't going for it. And if you aren't a poker player, repost, tweet, and get the word out if you value your freedoms as an American citizen...Adelson wants to control the world through his view.

Tonight is the start of the poker in Vegas, just don't do it at the Venetian. Read Dalla's latest blog post on the boycott here.

Antigua is winding up another volley

The dispute resolution process started in 2003 when the tiny island government of Antigua and Barbuda ("Antigua") set out to challenge the United States in the World Trade Organization ("WTO") for gambling services that were prohibited cross-border because Antiguan operators like the World Sports Exchange offered those services to United States players.

The battle continued in Antigua vs. the United States.

And recently Antiguan officials announced the creation of a select government committee tasked with implementing Antigua's outstanding $21,000,0000 judgment against the United States.

Not only is there an annual judgment to be satisfied, but an existing balance that is in excess of $150 million. US-based copyright protection is at stake if the United States doesn't settle.
