The Minnesota Poker Hall of Fame was established back in July of this year when Canterbury Park Card Casino announced its inception. Top poker players that have played substantial roles in Minnesota's poker development would be chosen not only from Minnesota State but other states as well.

"The Minnesota Poker Hall of Fame will celebrate the success of local poker players and recognize those that have positively contributed to the betterment of the game," said Michael Hochman, Canterbury Park’s Senior Director of Casino Operations.

The first induction was held on Friday, October 4th, when Canterbury Park Card Casino announced that Lyle Berman was named as the first member of the Minnesota Poker Hall of Fame.

Berman is a key industry professional and has many ties to several successful Minnesota businesses making his selection an obvious choice.

"Lyle is not only a fierce competitor at the highest limits, he completely and indelibly changed the world of poker when he co-founded the World Poker Tour,” said Hochman. "We talked to a great deal of people about inaugural nominees into the Minnesota Poker Hall of Fame, and literally everyone’s first answer was Lyle Berman."

Berman holds three World Series of Poker bracelets, 16 WSOP cashes, and nearly $2.7 million in live tournament earnings — added to his professional resume, he definitely has a place in any Poker Hall of Fame.
