Europe's biggest-ever poker festival is going to shoot the top off the record books when PokerStars puts the meaning of the word 'celebration' into Barcelona this August for the European Poker Tour's (EPT) 100th Event.
The Casino Barcelona will play host to all poker players and fans in this historic celebration that begins on August 16th and runs to the 27th, 2014 — look for record breaking prize and attendance records.
From the European Poker Tour announcement:
"The EPT was born in Barcelona so it's very fitting to celebrate EPT's 100th event in true style and with unforgettable poker," said EPT President Edgar Stuchly. "EPT Barcelona is one of the most popular tour stops and attracts players from all over the world for the fantastic mix of beaches, iconic architecture, party atmosphere and world class poker,"
It all started back in the fall of 2004, September to be exact, when the first event took place and since then the massive record setting event boasts the following:
- Over 180,000 players
- 16 countries visited
- 39 millionaires made
- Over €535 million in prizes paid out
It's easy to see why the EPT is the world's most popular and richest poker tour and why the Barcelona festival is a must-attend. Adding to the kickoff of Season 11 of the EPT, the Barcelona festivities will partner up with the Spanish regional Estrellas Poker Tour that takes place from August 16th-21st as it has in the past. The combination of the two makes an incredible 12-day Barcelona poker festival.
This year the EPT will add 20 extra tables in anticipation of besting last year's records. The EPT Barcelona 2013 event broke all previous records when Soenke Jahn bested a field of 1,798 in the Estrellas for €169,136 and Tom Middleton topped a field of 1,234 in the EPT Main Event and took home €942,000.
With all the excitement and promise waiting in August in Barcelona for the 100th EPT celebration, will an additional 20 tables be enough?
