The hit TV show Survivor kicks off the 28th season on CBS on February 26th, 2014, in the Philippines. Cagayan is a province in the Philippines and will feature three tribes that induct eighteen new players — those three tribes are based on beauty, brawn, and brains and the new players are divided equally amongst the tribes.

CBS announced the cast for the upcoming season and included in the mix are: former NBA player Cliff Robinson, poker player Garrett Adelstein, and president of the MLB’s Miami Marlins David Samson.

Adelstein hails from Santa Monica, California, and the 27-year-old will be a part of the “Brains” tribe, which is named Luzon. The “Beauty” tribe is named "Solana," and the “Brawns” tribe is named Aparri.

Jean-Robert Bellande, who was a contestant on Season 15 of Survivor and took place in China, started the ball rolling for poker players taking an active role in the Survivor competition.

Adelstein isn't as widely know as Bellande, but according to HendonMob he’s no stranger to the competition on the green felt with $122,766 in lifetime tournament winnings — which include a 24th-place finish in the 2008 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure Main Event for $48,000; 222nd in the 2010 World Series of Poker Main Event for $48,847; and 25th in the 2011 WSOP $5,000 No-Limit Hold’em Triple Chance for $25,919.

“Dedicated 2,000 hours in preparing for the strategic, social and physical elements of Survivor,” Adelstein said in his Survivor profile. “Did everything from 50 hours of yoga, to over-analyzing every episode, to mastering slide puzzles to ready myself. I essentially devoted my entire life to preparing for this adventure for the previous six months.” reports that even though Adelstein won't be available for comments for a few weeks, it has reached out to CBS to arrange an interview with Adelstein.
