Helly Nahmad wants to teach kids art
You remember Hillel ‘Helly’ Nahmad, right? A short refresher in case you missed the indictment of 34 men in connection with an illegal gambling ring — read it here — where Nahmad was one of the key figures in the bust, possibly due to being a famous art dealer and owner of a prominent New York City art gallery.
An update on Nahmad: He is asking for the option to teach children about art instead of going to jail for illegal gambling. Nahmad has agreed to forfeit almost $6.5 million in cash and possible painting/s. He's asking for community service from Judge Jesse M. Furman where he will school kids on art and he also has volunteered to pay $100,000 per year to fund the program.
Sentencing coming up on April 30th in Manhattan Federal Court will tell the tale.
Billionaire Packer eyes Cosmopolitan
The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas, Nevada, is famous for losing money — it's in the reports, don't just take our word for it — but that apparently isn't stopping Crown Resorts (which is controlled by James Packer) from planning to “lodge an expression of interest” for the Cosmopolitan according to The Brisbane Times.
Deutsche Bank AG (DBK) is seeking over $2 billion for the Las Vegas Cosmopolitan Resort to bring a six-year long money-losing venture to an end according to a recent report by Bloomberg News.
But Renee Calabro who is the head of press and media relations for Deutsche Bank of Americas responded in an email that comment was declined when asked about the potential Packer bid.
