The Asia Pacific Poker Tour has a series of 21 tournaments coming up at the 2014 Asia Championship of Poker (ACOP) according to the schedule that was released on Thursday. The series will run from October 24th through November 9th at PokerStars LIVE Macau.
Players will be treated to 14 'ACOP Title Events' that are intermittently running across 17 days of poker action. The title events have buy-ins ranging from HK $2,500 to HK $500,000. A special incentive for winning one of the prestigious 'ACOP Title Events' is scoring a 'Spadie' trophy along with the tournament cash.
A HK $100,000 (~USD $13,000) buy-in Main Event packs a guaranteed HK $15 million prize pool and the champion will claim the 'Gold Spadie.'
Last year found 2,235 players in the mix, with HK $49 million (USD $6.34m) in prize money up for grabs. This year marks the third running of the series and prize pools and attendance are expected to be bigger and better than previous years.
“There’s a new level of excitement for poker in Macau this year and we’re anticipating a big turnout for the ACOP,” said APPT President Danny McDonagh. “We’ll have further announcements as we approach the event date but the fact we’ve received player confirmations this far in advance just illustrates the excitement for the ACOP in Year 3.”
Team PokerStars players that have confirmed playing the ACOP poker festival are: Bertrand ‘ElkY’ Grospellier, Randy ‘nanonoko’ Lew, Bryan Huang, Raymond Wu, Vivian Im, Naoya Kihara, and Celina Lin.
“The ACOP is where the world’s best players compete in Asia,” said Wu, who won the first-ever Spadie award in 2012 for winning the Deepstack Championship event. “I want to be the best and that means beating the best. The ACOP attracts some of greatest minds in Asia as well as internationally. Those trophies represent something special and a collection of Spadies means you’d be good enough to play with anyone in the world.”
PokerStars is running online satellites to the ACOP. Meaning you can win your way into the series from your favorite chair at home.
The ACOP kicks off the first weekend with the HK $2,500 Rebuy Championship (HK $500,000 guaranteed) and HK $11,000 Deepstack Championship (HK $1,000,000 guaranteed) events — both are scheduled to run over two days.
New to the ACOP schedule is the '2m GTD Spadie’ event, a HK $8,800 buy-in tournament that carries a HK $2 million guaranteed prize pool — play online satellites at PokerStars for this event.
The 2014 ACOP also has scheduled tournaments for players with bigger bankrolls. The Super High Roller tournament debuts on November 1st and has an astounding HK $500,000 (~USD $65k) buy-in, with two rebuys per player allowed. Then on November 8th, the HK $250,000 (~USD $32k) High Roller freezeout event kicks off.
