June 17th turned out to be a day of bad news for Scottish online poker pro Dale "Daleroxxu" Philip. Allegedly Philip's behavior at an event in Marbella, Spain, was the reason he was removed from Team PokerStars Online by PokerStars.
According to Philip he was at a World Cup game at the PokerStars Marbella Poker Festival and his contract was terminated because of the way he cheered for a goal scored during a World Cup match against Spain by Netherlands forward Robin Van Persie. Philip published the events on his personal blog on Wednesday.
Philip goes on to state that PokerStars felt his behavior wasn't what it should have been for a player that represents their brand. The celebration of the goal by Philip (wearing the white T-shirt) can be seen in the following video:
PokerStars PR Manager Marc Stuart was contacted by U.K. PokerNews.com's Matthew Pitt and Stuart confirmed PokerStars' decision to end the contract with Philip in the following statement: "we can confirm Dale is no longer a member of Team Online and we wish him well in his future endeavors."
Stuart did not go into any further detail on the reasons that Philip's contract with PokerStars was cancelled six months before the contract's expiration date.
Philip first communicated the news from his Twitter account on June 17th.
Daleroxxu Dale Philip
Just been dropped from PokerStars for the goal celebration against Spain. Not the best news before an 11 hour flight. 2014-06-17
Philip currently lives in Thailand and got the news when he was heading home after he had been in Spain representing PokerStars for a week.
PokerNews.com contacted Philip but he had nothing further to add to his version of the story. He said his thoughts over what happened in Spain "have all been extensively explained in the blog post" published on June 18th.
