Montesino Casino is fine tuning the heat in Vienna, Austria, for the 2014 PokerNews Cup Main Event. Day 1a started with 167 players and 20 re-entries. With two starting flights, Day 1a's €42,075 prize pool generated excitement with organizers believing that the €75,000 guarantee will be beat.
Day 1a found 51 players moving on to Day 2 after playing through 12 levels with Austria's Christian Einstein bagging and tagging the top chip stack at 265,500. The day's average was 91,666 and Maximilian Noll (189,00) and Vincent Gomez (153,000) had to feel fairly comfortable heading into Day 2.
The series is in its fifth edition after taking a five-year break. Australia's Con Tsapkounis took down the championship at the Crown Casino in Melbourne, Australia, in 2009.
The 2014 PokerNews Cup runs from October 9th to 12th and along with the featured €250 buy-in €75,000 GTD Main Event, players can look forward to a €75 buy-in second chance event.
Day 1b of the main event is running at both Montesino Casino and at the Concord Card Casino Simmering but most of the action is at the Montesino Casino. Cash tables are running around the clock at the Montesino Casino which is one of Vienna's most popular entertainment centers.
