Team PokerStars Pro just went platinum with George Danzer taking down the 2014 World Series of Poker Player of the Year! Danzer cashed in 10 WSOP events, played five final tables and won three gold bracelets along with earning $867,649!

The battle between Danzer and Brandon Shack-Harris for the coveted title went back and forth during the WSOP Asia-Pacific festival. During the 10 events that took place in Australia, the lead for POY changed three times. We would have to assume that Danzer and Schack-Harris dogged each other's every move as the event registrations and tournaments played out. Neither could afford to miss the opportunity to be in action and in the running.

In the eighth event of WSOP Asia-Pacific Danzer won his third gold bracelet in 2014 but the AU$10,000 Main Event kept Shack-Harris in contention as he made a run in it.

It's possible the tension vibrating back and forth from both POY contenders reverberated off of everything and anyone in between them as Shack-Harris made a last-ditch effort for the lead while Danzer was getting busted in the last event of the series — the AU$25,000 High Roller! Shack-Harris was going to have to take second-place in the Main Event but his pocket jacks were shredded by Frank Kassela's {A-}{9-}! He was out in 17th place but he never missed a beat as he went off to register in the High Roller.

The High Roller wasn't kind to Shack-Harris. He needed to finish fourth or better to claim the POY title and his bust-out was a heart breaker, not only because of the POY points, but also because he put his money in good on the last hand, only to get crushed by a two outer.

The flop brought the {Q-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}{8-Hearts} and Shack-Harris held the {K-Spades}{Q-Clubs}. Sean Winter held the {A-Hearts}{A-Diamonds}. The {9-Clubs} hit the turn but the {A-Spades} on the river ran the final dagger through Schack-Harris' quest and finished his game.

Shack-Harris and Danzer shared the news with Twitter when the final was over:

Danzer picked up a $10,000 seat to the 2015 WSOP Main Event for his victory but the honor of winning is like winning a gold bracelet, to forever mark a place in poker history and all visitors to the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino during the WSOP will see Danzer's image on a giant banner overseeing the proceedings of all future WSOP events.
