How many times have you marveled at the government's interpretation of poker? None? May we ask what planet you're living on if a slightly mystified look doesn't come across your face when confronted with a S-T-O-O-P-I-D remark by a politician concerning poker. Of course, if you do marvel at the absence of an intelligent look from a politician that knows absolutely nothing about the game and how utterly senseless their remarks and concerns are, we're witcha all the way to home plate! There are a couple of issues related to government — on both sides of the pond — that are up front and center in The Inside Shuffle today. Let's hit it!
An Open Letter to Save the Aviation Club
Back in September the Paris Police Raided Aviation Club de France (ACF). ACF is one of Europe's most famous gambling clubs and has played host to games that brought some of the most famous poker players in the world to the tables and also showcased world-televised World Poker Tour events.
During the raid the French authorities took several people into custody amidst accusations of money laundering and irregularities in the employment of some of the establishment's personnel. The doors have remained closed since the raid even though none of the accusations have been proven.
Top poker pros Bruno Fitoussi, Liv Boeree, and Bruno Lopes endorsed a campaign to help raise public awareness when the room promoted a social “#BringBackACF” campaign. With no answers yet from France's administrative authorities, the ACF has sent an open letter to France's president to intervene. The letter was presented to PokerNews.com for publication.
Midterm Elections Lead PPA to Release List of Lawmaker "Jokers"
The United States continues to bog down somewhere in the mud that Sheldon Adelson's save-the-children-and-the-poor campaign slings across the politicians' eyes, ears, and common sense instead of taking a giant step forward for mankind and simply legalizing online poker. A few states have stepped up and legalized online poker and even in those states, there are some issues with the politicians being divided.
The Poker Players Alliance (PPA) is working hard to put all the facts on the table and make sure that any concerned, voting citizen knows which politicians are working to destroy and undermine the freedom of being able to play online poker by publishing a list of state and federal lawmakers it refers to as "jokers" due to advocating prohibitions against online poker.
