Jean-Claude Biver and Ricardo Guadalupe are the developers who initiated and grew Hublot, the renowned Swiss luxury watch company. Both American football and basketball, FIFA World Cup, and Ferrari, have collaborated with Hublot and now the world of poker will open the doors to another threshold for the company as they become the “Official Timekeeper and Official Watch” of the World Poker Tour (WPT) and Alpha8. The WPT Player of the Year title sponsor now rests with Hublot. Winners will receive a custom one-of-a-kind watch — now regarded as the Hublot WPT Player of the Year.
Hublot displayed a limited-edition 45.5 mm diameter Big Bang Unico World Poker Tour watch at the WPT Five Diamond World Poker Classic in Las Vegas to mark the occasion. There are two versions of the watch available: A limited edition of only 100 numbered pieces in 18K king gold; And a more impact resistant steel edition, numbered at 200 pieces. The WPT logo will be displayed in the sapphire crystal of the case-back. Each winner of a televised Alpha8 and WPT event will also take home a custom timepiece while the Big Bang Unico WPT watch will be available at retail.
"Hublot has once again proven itself to be first, unique and different, as the first luxury brand to become Official Timekeeper and Official Watch of the international professional poker circuit,” said Guadalupe, CEO of Hublot. “We chose the World Poker Tour because its global presence, televised tournaments and quality of its players make it a benchmark in the game. I strongly believe that this field has great commercial and marketing potential. The tremendous success of our boutiques in Las Vegas and Macau are evidence of the possibilities. I am delighted with this great collaboration that awaits us."
Hublot also became the first luxury brand to enter cricket and made headlines earlier this year with that move. India, the Middle East, and Australia are big cricket fans and Hublot became a household name on four different continents when it stepped into the market.
"Hublot is a Swiss luxury brand renowned across the globe for its sports watches with an instantly recognizable design," said WPT President Adam Pliska. "This partnership will bring even more value to each and every televised event of the World Poker Tour. In April, Season XII WPT World Champion Keven Stammen beat Byron Kaverman at the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa, and received the magnificent prize of a Hublot King Power Unico. We are delighted to be able to give almost one million dollars' worth of luxury watches to the champions of our televised WPT Main Tour and WPT Alpha8 events, and the Hublot WPT Player of the Year in the upcoming seasons.”
