March 8th, 2015, may be remembered for years in online poker history as the day PokerStars ran an edition of the Sunday Million that blew all the other tournament guarantees out into the nickle seats. This up and coming Sunday Million will have the usual $215 buy-in but the prize pool is guaranteed at a whopping $9 million!
The world’s biggest online poker room will put cards in the air on Sunday, March 8th, at 2:30 p.m. Eastern Time and recreational and pro players are expected to be lined up clear to the Milky Way waiting to get a virtual seat.
"I’ll be taking a shot as usual and hoping I can bink a huge score," Team PokerStars Pro Online Lex Veldhuis said. "There aren’t too many one-off tournaments that are an absolute ‘must-play’, but the Sunday Million Anniversary event is for sure."
Veldhuis continued, "Winning a $1 million-plus first prize from just $215 – or even less if you satellite in – is an unreal opportunity." Veldhuis was graciously pointing out (if there was any doubt) that the Sunday Million Anniversary event should be a must play for every player because the value is massive. Many players will buy in outright but others will be playing online qualifiers that are running now at PokerStars.
The biggest tournament to date was held at PokerStars during the 9th Anniversary celebration. Of course it was the Sunday Million. That beauty had a $10 million guarantee and was held in 2011. By the time PokerStars finished opening up tables and had the final starting tally settled, the prize pool was $11,825,600 built by 59,128 players. Luke "Bdbeatslayer" Vrabel made it through that massive field to take home $671,093 after a deal was made. Along with that huge chunk of cash Vrabel also took home a Lamborghini Gallardo.
PokerStars has already launched satellite events that give you the chance to win a seat in what could be the biggest Sunday Million ever for as little as $1 or 50 Frequent Player Points (FPP).
