Poker pro Jason Somerville just stepped into the highly coveted role of becoming a member of the world's leading online poker site — PokerStars! Somerville is always in action, not just on the green felt but in all of his efforts and hard work spent promoting his own brand and building a massive fan base through his live streaming videos on YouTube and Twitch. PokerStars gained a defining asset when Somerville was added to its exclusive team of sponsored players.
"Jason Somerville represents the latest generation of poker pros, raised on American poker television and videogame culture," from the company's press release. "The young American has parlayed his poker passion into a successful Twitch feed, where fans watch his real-time play, commentary and strategic advice on the popular video platform and game community."
To complete and enhance the full circle of the partnership PokerStars will launch its official Twitch channel. The Twitch channel will carry educational content along with a wide variety of entertainment streams that include content from other members of Team PokerStars Pro. Season 3 of Somerville's highly popular Run it UP! series will launch on Sunday, March 1st at twitch.tv/pokerstars with Somerville as a regular contributor. With Somerville in action on Twitch and YouTube, PokerStars believes he will open the door to both poker and non-poker audiences around the world.
"I'm delighted to become a member of Team PokerStars and can’t wait to resume my Run It UP! series on Twitch," Somerville said. "I'll be live streaming for several hours this coming Sunday and I can’t wait to hear from, and chat to, a growing group of poker fans as the broadcasts continue."
PokerStars online and events and tournaments around the globe will see Somerville in action there also. The American Poker Awards will be held Friday evening at the SLS Hotel in Los Angeles and Somerville will make his first appearance there as a PokerStars ambassador. His Run it UP series is a finalist for Poker Media Content of the Year.
Somerville's impressive poker accomplishments showcase a WSOP bracelet and more than $6 million in combined tournament winnings online and live. Last summer's $100,000 Super High Roller in Las Vegas was Somerville's biggest cash where he chopped the tournament for $1,347,352. Always an ambassador for the great game of poker, he has been compared to fellow Team PokerStars Pro Daniel Negreanu.
"Jason is a unique proposition – a poker pioneer who has had great success both online and live, and brings something different to the table through the way in which he has built a popular live streaming poker show," said Kirsty Thompson, Head of Pro & Celebrity Marketing at PokerStars. "I'm sure he will be a great ambassador for PokerStars, and will help to increase the level of interactivity between the brand and its players."
