The Poker Wall
The people that play the great game of poker are, at times, hidden behind the noise and news of the mainstream of poker pros and the nose bleed limits that run in Casino action and online poker rooms. Each player has a story to tell; their version of how the game played out, their view of poker as a hobby or as a respectable living, all the glory of winning, and all the heartbreak of a bad beat. The Poker Wall is open 24 hours a day and written by real people that play the game. You will find the real meat of poker and what it takes to be a regular player on your journey through The Poker Wall. Don't be surprised if you recognize yourself.

In the first part of my review of the poker training site DragtheBar, I focused on the parts that I felt would help my game the most while hopefully giving the readers a pretty good indication of the kind of help that is available for those looking to make their game better. Today I am focusing on the other great features of DragtheBar, including the cash game video, blogs, and forum sections. As mentioned in my first post I was also looking to begin dabbling in low stakes cash games, and hopefully be able to eventually parlay that into being the next Tom “Durrrr” Dwan.

If you have paid any attention to my blog, Life Meets Poker, over the last few months you have seen that I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with the game of poker. I have seemed to hit a lull in my game that has equated to a break even stretch that has lasted the better part of four months. So, when I got the opportunity to join a training website with a bunch of well known players I have both watched and written about over the years, I jumped at the opportunity.

Alright I’m back with the final installment of my misadventures at the PCA. After spending more than the good part of the night giving praise to the porcelain gods due to a poor choice in lunch that day, I managed to get myself out of bed only 45 minutes after the tournament had begun for Day 2. Though I had no desire to play poker at all that day, I still had a decent stack to work with and I refused to just let it blind away. After all this could be my big break…wait I feel like I’ve said that before.

Once again, this month did not start well in online poker, and I was beginning to wonder if my losing streak would ever end. Again, part of this losing streak was my fault. I played too aggressively, and I am not an aggressive player by nature. I was not playing within myself. But the streak was not all my fault, and on Jan. 27, after yet another awful month, I was determined to finally have a good month and start getting back to my old winning ways. I decided that I would play Rush Poker, that I would play tight, and that I would play my two best games.

When I left off I had just finished day 1 of the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure with around 50k in chips. There were a few questionable spots on the way to the end of the day that I may have been able to gamble to finish with even more chips, but after discussing the hands with some friends it was agreed that I chose the best options. Sadly these options didn’t leave me with more chips. There was one hand in particular worth noting near the end of the day where I flopped top pair-top kicker in a four way pot with A-Qo on a Q-T-6 flop with two spades.

The month of December started off pretty horrendous for me on the online felt. To make matters worse, no matter what I did, I couldn’t seem to win a package into the PCA tournament being held in January. I was beginning to think that there was no way I was going to end up going, despite the fact that it’s the tournament that all the online players show up at and people were telling me that I was crazy even considering not going.

It was a tough month for me in online poker. This is nothing new. Most of my months were tough last year. It was a tough year, in fact. And if I had not played live last year, I would have been in a big hole (for me, anyway, it's not like I'd have to sell the house or even pull any money out of our checking account).I have tried to take this bad streak in stride for several reasons.I'm playing well live and winning a lot of money both in tournaments and in ring games. A session at the MGM, for instance, paid for my trip out in Vegas in December.
