Promoted as the biggest thing to hit poker since the hole card camera, the World Series of Poker Main Event delay and its “November Nine” had a lot to live up to.The setting was the Penn & Teller Theater at the Rio in Las Vegas, the players and their personal stories were hyped, the $9.1 million first prize was all the buzz, and the rest was up to...well…the poker industry. But the morning of November 9, 2008, the throngs of media and the long lines of fans awaiting entrance to the theater allowed Harrah’s, ESPN, and WSOP organizers to breathe a sigh of relief.

It was the evening of November 10th, 2008 when the two finalists in the 2008 World Series of Poker No-Limit Hold’em Championship event came to the table to play for the ultimate poker victory. Peter Eastgate and Ivan Demidov were as ready as they could be to compete in the heads-up match to determine poker’s new world champion and winner of more than $9.1 million.The final two solidified their spots at the coveted table late the night before, and as scheduled, the pair of finalists left to get some rest before playing for the title and their fair share of nearly $15 million.

The final table of the 2008 World Series of Poker main event was determined on July 15th. With the late-night elimination of Dean Hamrick, the nine remaining poker players were set to return on November 9th for a final table hyped by the media and filled with anxious players.After four months of anticipation, though not as much media-attention during that time as had been hoped for, November 9th was upon us, and the nine final tablists were at the Rio, friends and family in tow by the hundreds.

Within days, the 2008 World Series of Poker main event will host its final table with the nine finalists who have waited several months for the opportunity to finish what they started. Though each of them were awarded $900,670 as they departed Las Vegas in July, the first prize of $9.1 million has taunted them ever since. Three of those players signed sponsorship deals with Full Tilt and will try to win that championship title with the support of FTP.
