The $1,000 (+70) buy-in No-Limit Hold’em tournament attracted a strong field of 124 entries. This was the tenth event of 15 on this year’s Bayou Poker Challenge schedule. The two-day tournament generated a prize pool totaling $120,280 – the biggest payout so far of this year’s winter Bayou series.

Finally! The night for which the entire poker world had waited. The playing out of the November Nine, and the crowning of the 2009 World Series of Poker Main Event champion. After an almost four-month hiatus, Phil Ivey, Darvin Moon, Eric Buchman, Steven Begleiter, Antoine Saout, Joe Cada, Kevin Schaffel, Jeff Shulman and James Akenhead reconvened at the Rio hotel in Las Vegas to finally answer many questions. Would Ivey cement his status as the best poker player in the world, and perhaps lay claim to being the best of all time?

The wait was over, and a 2009 World Series of Poker Main Event champion was to be crowned. The most exciting tournament of the year reached its final stage - literally and figuratively - and the energy surrounding the heads-up match was nothing but electric.At 6am PT on November 8, after more than 17 hours of WSOP Main Event final table action in the Rio’s Penn & Teller Theater and in the midst of the lights and cameras of the ESPN crew, the final two players were left to relish in their accomplishments and prepare mentally and physically for the last step of their 2009 WSOP journey.

At 6am on the morning of November 8, the 2009 World Series of Poker Main Event final table found its two heads-up players. The biggest and most recognized no-limit hold’em tournament in the world played out in the Rio’s Penn & Teller Theater, and about 17.5 hours after it began with nine players, only Darvin Moon and Joe Cada remained. It was the elimination of Antoine Saout that made it possible, and the last two players standing were in for a day and a half of media attention and anxiety before returning to play for the win.
