ESPN decided to drastically curtail the number of WSOP tournaments it was going to televise this year, reducing the number of events to just three: The 40K no limit hold’em, the Champion’s Invitational and the $10,000 Main Event. In addition, they chose to air the Ante Up for Africa charity event, which will be televised next week. Tonight’s event was the Champion’s Invitational, featuring past Main Event champions (with the notable exception of Russ Hamilton) facing off in a freeroll with a vintage Corvette as the prize for the winner.

It wasn’t an easy road by any means. Eight days may not seem like a lengthy journey to most, but in tournament poker, those eight days are long, exhausting, and stressful. Or even make it into the money for that matter? I get to the Rio about 10 a.m. and find out soon after that Nichoel Peppe, the young woman I spent the day with the previous day, is going to be at the secondary feature table to begin the day. I had gotten her and her husband's cell phone numbers the night before and not wanting to bother Nichoel as she got ready for play, I called Tad's number. He answers after a few rings.“Tell your girl to put her best makeup on,” I say.“Feature table?” he asks.“You got it,” I tell him.“Nice,” he says. “Thanks for telling us! We'll see you in a bit.
