Daniel Negreanu

Daniel Negreanu, born July 26, 1974 in Toronto, Canada, harbored dreams of a career in acting or comedy, but he learned to play poker instead. By the time he was sixteen he was spending most of his time hustling in the pool halls, sports betting or playing cards in the illegal games around Toronto. He dropped out of high school several credits short of graduation and concentrated on building his bankroll; when he turned twenty-one he ventured to Las Vegas.

It wasn’t long before the tables of Las Vegas depleted the young player’s cash, forcing him back to Toronto to improve his playing skills and rebuild his bankroll. He returned to Las Vegas determined to make a name for himself, and that he did. In 1997 he won two events at the Foxwoods World Poker Finals and in 1998 at the World Series of Poker, he won the $2,000 Pot Limit Hold’em event—making him the youngest player ever to win a WSOP Bracelet—that record lasted until 2004.

Daniel continues to reign as a professional player, collecting three more WSOP bracelets, and winning two World Poker Tour events.  He was named player of the year at the WSOP in 2004, and of the World Poker Tour in 2005. He has 111 cashes, with total live tournament winnings of $10,800,000, second only to Jamie Gold on the all time money list, and he leads the WPT circuit in monies earned.

He was “Poker Ambassador” to the Wynn Las Vegas when it opened, but abandoned that endeavor in October 2005 because it kept him from playing High Stakes Games outside the Wynn.  When he is not playing tournaments he can often be found at the big game in Bobby's Room in the Bellagio Casino. Daniel posts regularly in the forums of Full Contact Poker and has written many articles for Card Player Magazine.

In June of 2007 he joined the many other professional players as a member of Team PokerStars. Even though he loves No Limit Omaha 8 or better, most of his cashes have come from Hold’em games and he shares some of his strategies in his book “Power Hold’em,” which was released in May of 2008.

Daniel, who lives in Las Vegas, is a very competitive golfer and an avid hockey fan; he also enjoys going to the movies and there’s a rumor that Daniel likes to play ping pong – at PokerWorks, we do not believe that’s true!
