Peter Eastgate

There’s a new kid in town!!! In the early morning hours of November 11, Peter Eastgate , age 22, defeated Ivan Demidov of Russia, to become the youngest person to ever win a World Series of Poker Main Event Championship. Prior to Eastgate’s 2008 win, Phil Hellmuth had reigned as the youngest Champion, winning the event in 1989, when he was only 24 years old.

Peter was born in December, 1985 in Odense, Denmark and started playing poker online at Poker Stars right after he graduated from high school. Although Peter hasn’t seen much action on the live cash game scene, he has booked some pretty impressive wins in his tournament play: he places 9th in the 2007 Irish Poker Open winning $46,714 and earlier in 2008 he took 30th in the PokerStars European Poker Tour Copenhagen event, worth another $16,610—minor compared to this WSOP No Limit Hold’em Event worth $9,152,416 for his first place finish.

When someone this young has the patience, perception, and talent to be crowned King of such a prestigious Hill, you can be assured that we will be seeing a lot more of Peter Eastgate. He holds his first WSOP Bracelet and his total tournament winnings as of this 2008 title exceed $9,200,000, watch out you Top Dogs, he is nipping at your heels.
