Tom Franklin

“Captain” Tom Franklin was born in Fresno, California on October 23, 1950.  His first money cash at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) was in 1990 when he finished 24th in the $10,000 No Limit Hold’em event, although his career in poker appears to have began in 1970.  Franklin won a WSOP bracelet in the $2,500 limit Omaha event in 1999 and in 2005 won a No Limit Hold’em event in the Five Diamond Classic at Bellagio in Las Vegas.  This event awarded him $434,025 and as of 2008, his live tournament winnings exceed $2,500,000.

Franklin remains very active in poker and helps support the game by traveling and playing poker and also became the Chairman of the World Poker Association in early 2009.

Although Franklin became linked to the tragedy of Brandi Hawbaker and rumors ran across the internet poker forums, it is hard to say what truth there is to any of it, and true or not, it carries no value in his poker playing abilities.

Franklin is married and has five children, he lives in Gulfport Mississippi, and his favorite poker game is No Limit Hold’em.  When he’s not playing poker, or spending time with his family, he enjoys singing, drumming, and golf.  Look for Captain Tom at most big tournaments, moving toward the final table.
