It's Not All About The Cards On the poker circuit, there is an almost invisible line of division and lack of respect between the live professionals and those who got their start on the Internet. Neither side has much respect for the other and believe they are better than the other. If you think about it though, there isn't much difference between the two.

One of my favorite formats to play online is the multi-table sit & go turbo tournament. While most normal tourney structures require a time commitment of a minimum of three hours and usually more, the faster blind structure of the sit & go turbos allows you to play against anywhere from 17 to 179 other players and finish the game in about an hour.

Details on my goal for the Bodog Poker SNG $5k Challenge can be found here. I started this challenge Thursday, August 7th and was cruising along at just under 40% ROI through Day 6. But, before I get into the numbers this week, I’ll give you a good idea of how I approach these games during the first four levels.

It's Not All About The Cards The glamour and glitz of television make it seem like being successful at tournament poker is easy... that anyone can do well. Think of all the rags to riches stories we've seen just in the last five years. Chris Moneymaker, Joe Hachem, and Jerry Yang all came from nowhere to win the WSOP Main Event and millions of dollars.

I'm a runner in addition to the whole mountain climbing thing (now you know what PokerPEAKer stands for; you can thank me later for solving the mystery for you). One of the things we runners strive for is to peaking when our races come around. I have, for the most part, been successful in this, registering my best time in certain events in just about every race this year.

It's Not All About The Cards An aspect of poker that goes largely undiscussed by everyone but math geeks is making deals once you're in the money, or in some cases, close to the money. Making a deal can be confusing for amateurs and professionals alike and understanding when and when not to make a deal can have a significant impact on your bottom line.

This afternoon, I was playing in a no limit hold’em tournament on PokerStars, approaching the final table, where the top seven players cashed, when a short-stacked player caught a two-outer on the river to reduce my stack a bit. Two hands later, I was dealt A-A, and put in a 3x raise, only to have two other people go all-in after me.

Bodog runs “Beginner” sit and go’s (SNG) which pay 50% of the field, standard SNG’s payout 30% of the field. The advantage of Bodog’s Beginner SNG flat payout structure is your risk of going broke is much lower. Finishing in the top 5 in a 10-player SNG is easier than finishing in the top 3.

It's Not All About the Cards As I mentioned in the previous chapter, when it comes to choosing what tournament to play the most important factor is how will it affect your bankroll? The quickest downfall for many professional poker players is that they don't know how to manage their money.

Many players will continue to play at their current levels or even move up higher chasing their losses. Some will stay at the table and tilt off more money after a cooler or bad beat while cursing their luck. Others will play ultra passive with scared money.
