Bodog Beginner SNG Challenge $5k in 60 days

Bodog runs “Beginner” sit and go’s (SNG) which pay 50% of the field, standard SNG’s payout 30% of the field. The advantage of Bodog’s Beginner SNG flat payout structure is your risk of going broke is much lower. Finishing in the top 5 in a 10-player SNG is easier than finishing in the top 3. The downside is when you do finish in the top 3 spots, you get a lower payout than you would have if you finished in the top 3 in a standard SNG payout structure.

Bodog Poker offers single table 10-player “Beginner” SNG’s with the following buy-ins and payouts:

Beginner SNG / Buy-in / Payouts (1st through 5th)

Beginner / $4+.40 / $12-$10-$8-$6-$4
Beginner + / $8+.80 / $24-$20-$16-$12-$8
Beginner ++ / $16+1.60 / $48-$40-$32-$24-$16
Beginner +++ / $32+3 / $96-$80-$64-$48-$32

The “Beginner SNG Challenge” is to turn $200 into $5000 in 60 days playing Bodog’s single table 10-player Beginner sit and go’s exclusively.

I’ll begin the challenge with $200 and start at the Beginner ++ level ($16+1.60 buy-in). I’ll have just over 11 buy-ins at this level. If my starting bankroll falls to $100, I’ll drop down to the Beginner + level ($8+.80). I’ll drop down to the Beginner level ($4+40) if it falls below $50. The challenge will be finished when I have $5000 or after 60 days, whichever comes first.

I don’t expect that I’ll have to drop below the Beginner ++ level. I’ve been playing the Beginner ++ / +++ SNG’s sporadically over the last few months with very positive results.

Since they’re called “Beginner” SNG’s, they attract new players. They also attract many tight players who are risk adverse. An experienced SNG player can punish the table on the bubble and even through to the top three spots if you have enough folding equity when you get down to seven players or less.

There are some limitations that slow me down. Bodog only allows you to play up to three (3) tables concurrently and the higher buy-in SNG’s don’t fill up fast. I can’t register for another SNG until I finish one of the three tables I have open and sometimes they can take as long as 15 minutes to fill up. During late hours, (after 1am EST) they rarely fill up at all. These restrictions will make this challenge a real grind. But, I’m very positive I can finish the challenge and meet my goal even with these limitations.

I’ll submit a weekly progress report which will include the number of SNG’s I’ve played, net profit, ROI %, hourly win rate and average finish.

Wish me luck and make sure to check back for my results.
