In my last article I described the blocking bet and gave particular instances in which it ought to be used along with types of opponents to use it against. One opponent you should avoid attempting the blocking bet on is an experienced aggressive opponent. These players have seen tons of blocking bets, recognize them, and exploit them.

Most experienced Poker players understand the concept of a protected Pot. "Don't bluff into a multi-way pot on the river." In limit poker any time there are several opponents at least one of them has you beat and will probably call, if the pot is large. The more opponents still in the hand, decreases the chance that a bluff will be successful.

Chris "Jesus" Ferguson turned $1 into $20K in only a few months. "Well, that's Chris" you say. "If I had his ability I could do that to." Funny thing is, according to Jim Rose, Chris played a mechanical system that anyone can play. Rose explains his short stack system in an interview he did with Bluff Magazine. Over the last few years as a poker dealer, I have often heard players at the table discuss whether or not they had ever thrown away pocket Kings pre-flop. I remember the very first time I ever heard this discussion. It was during the 2003 World Series of Poker. Annie Duke and another pro were discussing this very topic.

Just the other day I was in a large tournament with a very decent-sized entry fee. In other words, one in which players have entered for a sum most would think twice about before setting light to it for a bit of fun! Might this affect a player’s tactics in the tournament?
