On November 5th, the night after the U.S. elected Barack Obama as the 44th President of the United States, poker players gathered in Mashantucket, Connecticut for the World Poker Finals at Foxwoods. They brought their own version of “hope” to the tournament tables as they looked to become the next World Poker Tour champion.

The return of the World Poker Tour to the Festa al Lago series at the Bellagio in Las Vegas was met with excitement from players and the usual WPT fanfare that surrounds its tournaments. But the tally of 368 players who entered the $15K buy-in main event showed that there is still a demand for high buy-in tournaments and a love for the WPT. Missions accomplished.

Back by popular demand, the Festa al Lago tournament series at the Bellagio in Las Vegas was reinstated to the World Poker Tour schedule during its seventh season. After having skipped the tour stop in 2007, players seemed anxious to have it back in 2008 with the WPT at the helm of the main event.Even so, attendance was down for the preliminary events.

One of the most anticipated stops on the World Poker Tour has become the North American Poker Championship in Niagara Falls. Not only is it a beautiful and different setting for a poker tournament, but it allows players 18-years of age and older to participate, rather than the usual 21-year old limit of the U.S.

It had been nearly a month since the last World Poker Tour event, and players who prefer to play on North American soil were anxious for the North American Poker Championship to begin at Fallsview Casino. The WPT was there, as were some of the top players in the world, and they were ready for action.

Several weeks after the incredible John Phan victory at the WPT Legends of Poker at the Bicycle Casino, the World Poker Tour traveled to the opposite end of the country for one of its favorite stops - the Borgata in Atlantic City.Though attendance was down quite significantly for the WPT main event at the Bicycle Casino last month, the tour hoped to pick it up again at the Borgata Poker Open.

The Legends of Poker series at the Bicycle Casino in Los Angeles is the first time that many pro poker players return to the tables after a post-WSOP break. Vacations have been taken, bank statements have been balanced, and the excitement for tournament poker has returned. And with that, players came to Los Angeles for the $10K buy-in World Poker Tour Legends of Poker main event.

The vibe at the Bicycle Casino was one of a reunion. When the players descended upon the Bike for the WPT Legends of Poker $10K main event on Saturday, August 23rd and Sunday, August 24th, many of the tournament circuit regulars had not seen each other since the World Series of Poker ended over a month prior.

When the World Poker Tour wrapped its sixth season of tournaments with the WPT Championship at Bellagio in April, players received a break from the WPT while the World Series of Poker played out in Las Vegas. But just as the WSOP main event began to hit its stride, the WPT came back with its popular Bellagio Cup.At the 2007 WPT Bellagio Cup, a total of 535 players bought in to the $10K event.
